First it was the wall, then the militarization

Within the personal universe of President Donald Trump´s mind, along the 2,000 miles of the land border between the United States and Mexico, is rising a “great and huge wall”, even more impressive than the Great Wall of China. In addition, the most powerful military force of our time will be used to stop the “fearsome caravans” of families of Central American migrants who try to enter the country and therefore destroy the sacred “American way of life”.

From lie to lie, from nonsense to nonsense, the tenant of the White House continues to use the most primitive emotions of his followers – fear and hatred – to try to justify the series of failures that have made him the most unpopular and erratic president since, well, ever.

With absolute contempt for the most basic facts and sense of reality, Mr. Trump keeps pushing towards the abyss. Within his baldhead mentality, the official figures of his own government saying that the unauthorized border crossings through the border with Mexico are at the lowest rates in decades do not matter. Nor does it matter that the main source of undocumented migration does not originate at the border, but through the arrival of people with legal visas. Nor does it matter that, according to all kinds of hard data, for 10 years the migratory rate of Mexicans entering the United States is negative; that is, there are more of them returning to Mexico than those looking north, mostly for economic reasons.

From the bizarre perspective of the man of the multi-color toupee, the arrival in Tijuana of few hundred families fleeing the extreme violence and poverty of Central America in order to request political asylum before a US judge, is the clear demonstration of the evil plot of those “bad men”, “rapists” and “criminals” against whom almost two years ago, he launched his cry to eradicate them and make America white again.

With the same discourse as the neo-Nazi activists, the so-called militias and various groups of the extreme right that have mounted the wave of citizen discomfort and social frustration that cross part of the world, the president of the United States continues to use Mexico as an easy target for his tantrums and hate speech.

Faced with a solid refusal of Congress to allocate several tens of billions of dollars for the construction of a wall as useless as the Great Wall is today at preventing a Mongol´s invasion, Mr. Trump keeps launching his 140-character bombs, using Mexico as the big bad wolf for his personal epic narrative.

An unusually clear answer by Enrique Peña Nieto, Mexican president, managed to unite all the major political and social actors of his country to, in fact, force the sending of “military forces” to the border rhetoric into a bureaucratic (although very costly) deployment of National Guard unarmed troops in some bases near the border line.

And although so far, a good part of the great threats of the president of the United States have remained digital outbursts that only succeed inside his head and in the wishes of his followers, it does not seem to be a good idea to forget that some of the worst nightmares of human history began just like that: dark fantasies of petit characters like this one.
